Belatedly in the early of the 1960s, Niel was banned from giving public concerts because of their "endangerment to the public safety" (Gefährdung der öffentlichen Sicherheit), but he had already died in Lingen on 16 July 1954. It also was contended that after 1945 he continued to espouse a National Socialist philosophy. In Germany during the postwar denazification process he was classified a Mitläufer (supporter). Niel wrote numerous then well-known hits like "Antje, mein blondes Kind" and "Auf der Heide blüht ein kleines Blümelein" ("Erika") as well as soldier's songs (Soldatensänge), such as "Wenn wir fahren gegen Engelland" (If we go against England) based on a poem of Hermann Löns. After the NS seizure of power he became Obermusikzugführer des Reichsarbeitsdienstes in Potsdam. After the 1914-18 war, in which he served as a front-line solder, he directed various orchestras and eventually became a very successful composer of martial music and popular tunes. The Kapellmeister (band leader) and composer Herms Niel was born in Nielebock, Saxony, in 1888 as Hermann Nielebock. If you maybe are interested in some of the songs and marches that he composed, please let me know and I will be delighted to check the "archive" for the recordings! Well, that´s all I got for this time, but I hope it may gave you a little "picture" of Herms Niel. He never managed to recover and died in 1954. In the end he was finally released, but didn´t lived so long because of the hard treatment he got in prison. One of my good friends told me that after the WWII, Herms Niel was put in jail by the Russians and were very badly treated for several years. If you for example listen to an song called "Flieg, deutsche Fahne, flieg" Tempo and Kristall. During the Third Reich he become very popular as composer and textwriter for many many of the wellknown "Soldatenlieders" With no doubts I think that he will be most remembered for songs like "Erika" and "Edelweiss" or his composed music to "Wir fahren gegen Engeland" It is also very interesting that most of all the German record labels immediately after Hitler came to power 1933, began an enormous production of "Kampflieder der Bewegung Nationale Märsche und Lieder" as well as "Soldatenlieder" "SA und SS-Lieder" "Hitler-Jugend-Lieder" together with lots of instrumental marches. So far I unfortunately don´t have so much information about him but here is what I´ve found in my notes for today: Herms Niel was born 1888 as Hermann Nielebock. I´m looking forward to hear from you!Īs promised earlier today, I want to send you some information about the famous composer and bandleader Herms Niel. I also have some small biographical notes about him which I could send to you later today! If you are interested in discussing this kind of music, you have found the right person! I also collect "Kleinkunst und Tanzmusik" from the same period. He also wrote the text to many of the songs. So far I have in my collection nearly 500 different original recordings made in Berlin during the period of 1930-1944 and as I mentioned, many of them are composed by the famous Herms Niel. You have of course all the recordings made by the RAD which in fact was in charge and conducted by Obermusikführer Herms Niel. As a serious collector of Soldatenlieder und Märsche aus dem Dritten Reich I think Herms Niel is the one who actually have composed most of the songs and marches in my collection.

I have lots of original recordings which were composed by Herms Niel. I'm interested in finding out more about the man and his music. Oswald Mosley wrote:During WW2 many popular German marching songs composed by a bandleader named Herms Niel.
